PERFORMANCE
I play music of Africa and its Diaspora, including both traditional and popular styles, including:
TRADITIONS: Bèlè (Martinique), gwoka
(Guadeloupe), Afro-Cuban (rumba, bembe, comparsa, etc.), Brazilian escola
do samba and candomble, Ewe music of Southern Ghana
POPULAR MUSIC: Jazz, experimental jazz, funk,
salsa, samba, soca, zouk, biguine, afrobeat, highlife, mbaqanga, reggae,
rock, world beat
INSTRUMENTS: Conga, bongó, shekere, cajón,
guiro, clave, maracas, tanbou bèlè, gwoka, chacha, atabaque,
surdo, repinique, tamborim, berimbau, the Ewe drum ensemble, and many other
bells, shakers, and colors
To all of these musics I bring a combination of idiomatic
sounds and experimentation, in-the-pocket groove and unique solo voicings,
support and dedication.
