arashi shibori




On the right is a close-up of another piece of arashi shibori. As you can see, many colors can be applied to the same cloth. Depending on several factors (which goes on first, whether each dye is or is not thickened, and probably the phase of the moon!), different colors will appear in different places, and will mix in others. Again, a delight to take the fabric off the pole and see what's happened!


The piece of cotton on the left was pleated and wrapped around a pole (actually a 4" diameter PVC pipe) at an angle. I then wrapped string around the cloth, squished the cloth and the string together, and painted with unthickened dye.
