A new Floating Diamonds A dear friend of mine comissioned a floating diamonds quilt from me, and I've been working on it for some time now.He wanted the colors to be vibrant and saturated. With this style quilt I always start by making the diamonds, all of which are pieced from 2 lenghths of ombre cloth, so that the colors shift throughout the triangles in each diamond. When the diamonds are all pieced, I need to search for the right background for them --the one that will make the diamonds look best. For this particular quilt, I did a pretty fancy thing for the background; I shibori-dyed a large piece of fabric in green and indigo. It's dark, yet has a bit of excitement to it. detail: back to archives page |
